About The Forum and its editorial standards.

The Forum is a nonprofit academic news reader operated by The Atheneum Academy.

What appears in the brief

The Forum gathers a selected set of publisher RSS feeds covering academic news, research, higher-education policy, learning technology, and campus life. Sources are chosen for their fit with that student-focused scope. A story appearing in the feed is not an endorsement of every claim or view it contains.

How sources and items qualify

The built-in fallback source set currently includes these publishers and public agencies:

  • MIT News
  • ScienceDaily
  • Federal Student Aid
  • EdSurge
  • Inside Higher Ed
  • NSF News
  • NPR Education
  • The Hechinger Report
  • Community College Daily
  • Open Campus

A configured feed must match The Forum's academic topics and use HTTPS links on its approved publisher hosts. Individual items need a title, a plausible publication date, and an allowed original link. Invalid items are excluded, and moderation can hide an item from the public feed. When configured sources are available, they are the authority for the live feed, and every live item names its current source. The public brief checks selected feeds periodically; database-backed ingestion can also run on a schedule when it is configured. The Forum does not currently publish a separate source-review cadence.

Attribution and original reporting

Each publisher item identifies and links to its original source. When available, The Forum presents feed-supplied or automatically extracted article content in a sanitized reader view that removes common navigation and signup clutter. Reporting, updates, rights, and publisher corrections remain with the original publisher; when a reader view cannot be produced, the link opens the original page.

Programs and promotions

Forum-owned program and promotional placements are labeled as coming from The Forum and kept visually distinct from publisher stories. They are secondary to the reading experience and should not be read as publisher reporting or endorsement.

Authorship and review

Forum-owned guides and standards pages identify the publishing organization and their review date. Publisher cards retain the named publisher as their source; The Forum does not claim authorship of that reporting.

Corrections and contact

If a Forum excerpt, attribution, date, link, or disclosure appears wrong, contact The Atheneum Academy through its public website. The Forum can correct the information it presents; questions about the underlying reporting should go to the original publisher.

Reader privacy

The public brief and publisher links are separate from a reader's saved-story list. Saved stories are user-owned and are not public editorial signals, public profiles, or material for publication. The brief does not load publisher-hosted article images. Readers should not send private, unpublished, or sensitive information when reporting a correction.

Read with evidence in mind

The feed is a starting point, not a substitute for reading the original work. The student reading and evidence guide offers a short method for evaluating a headline, source, and research claim.
